These pictures were taken outside, as to X---, being outside to walk his dog is the essence of ownership. In X---'s own words, "Being outside with your dog is the main part of dog ownership -- no matter how cold it gets (the pictures were taken on a frigid December night). It's something you miss when you don't have it -- it gives you a chance to think and relax when you are walking your dog." To X---, having a large Rotweiler symbolizes security and responsibility. Security comes from knowing that when he is not home, his wife is protected by their dog, Bailey. Responsibility comes from the need to take care of a "person" that can't tell its owner what it wants and needs. Because of this, X- -- has formed an unspoken connection with Bailey, one that signifies the companionship and comfort that each brings to the other.
